I have tried my hand at many careers over the last 30 years, I have worked automotive, banking, sales and engineering, the one constant throughout my life has been the love of ‘taking photos’. From an early early I loved cameras and photography ad have taken countless photographs over the the years, my favourite subject is definitely people. I love photographing people and seeing their true personalities shine through from the image this led to me specialising as a Northeast Wedding Photographer.
I became a professional photographer out of necessity, the 2007/8 financial crisis forced my hand and I have never looked back. Ir hasn’t always been a easy journey, photographers are extremely critical of their own work, but even after all these years I am still in love with the whole process of photography and feel so lucky to be able to spend my days behind the camera.
I have an incredibly supportive family behind who suffer the long and irregular hours without (too much) complaint!.
I primarily shoot weddings due to demand, but I do still look to photograph anything and everything. I regular attend photographic workshops to try and keep my skills and knowledge fresh and up to date, and am part of a very supportive network of peers. As a busy wedding photographer in the northeast I undertake wedding photography across the region, covering Durham, Northumberland and North Yorkshire.
This is so true of photography, I love the challenge of finding that aspect or point of view which can transfer the mundane in to something outstanding. Photographers challenge themselves at every commission, whether it is wedding photography, portrait or commercial photograph – we want to create something new and amazing for every client. One of the most interesting things to capture in my opinion are the true emotions of a subject, one of the reasons I love wedding photography is I get to experience these moments at every wedding I attend.
I can resonate which this so much, however it is often easier said that done, it can be exhausting keep your awareness levels at the level that you notice anything and everything, watch for that special moment, the fleeting glance , the brief lapse that reveals a personals true emotional state. I take my hat off to those documentary photographers that do this this for hours on end at weddings.
I’m Dash (yes really! – well sort of…) most of my friends have called me Dash for so long I can’t remember why!- real name Brendan, I operated a successful studio and wedding photography service for quite a few years from 2007 onwards. We took a break to spend some time with family and other projects and now I am thrilled to be back and photographing weddings across the North.
