Brinkburn Priory is one of the most unique and atmospheric wedding venues in Northumberland. Tucked away in a quiet valley and surrounded by woodland, it offers a setting that feels peaceful, historic and completely removed from the outside world.
For couples looking for something a little different, Brinkburn Priory has a character that’s hard to match. The combination of its medieval architecture, natural surroundings and calm, secluded location creates an unforgettable backdrop for a wedding day. I love photographing weddings at Brinkburn Priory in Northumberland, it is one of the most naturally beautiful parts of northumberland and the priory has retained much of its magnificent elegance that only comes from buildings like this one.
At the heart of Brinkburn Priory is its stunning 12th-century church. The high stone arches, soft natural light and sense of history give ceremonies here a truly special feel.
Unlike many modern venues, the space doesn’t need much decoration. The building itself provides all the atmosphere, allowing the focus to stay on the moment and the people involved.
For wedding photography, this kind of setting is ideal. The natural light and textures of the stone create images that feel timeless and full of depth.
Brinkburn Priory wedding photography its definitely a labour of love and my enthusiasm for attending and photographing weddings has not receded. I prefer a more natural and relaxed approach to wedding photography allowing my couples to truly enjoy their most special day. It is my intention to capture your wedding day from start to finish, ensuring that your photographs best represent the story of your day. My most popular Brinkburn Priory wedding photography package is the ‘Photos’ package, as an option, you see your wedding day story presented in a beautifully designed wedding album that I’m sure will become a treasured heirloom. After the ceremony, celebrations continue in the surrounding grounds and reception spaces. The gardens and woodland areas offer plenty of opportunities for relaxed, natural photographs without needing to travel away from the venue.
One of the best things about Brinkburn Priory is how calm it feels throughout the day. There’s no rush, no distractions — just space to enjoy the moment with family and friends.
That atmosphere comes through in the photographs, creating images that feel genuine and unforced.
A documentary approach works particularly well at Brinkburn Priory. Rather than staging moments, the focus is on capturing what’s really happening — the reactions during the ceremony, the laughter during the drinks reception and the energy as the evening unfolds.
Couple portraits are usually relaxed and informal, often taken in the gardens, along the river or within the priory itself. The aim is always to keep things simple so the images feel natural rather than posed.
As the day moves into the evening, the light around Brinkburn Priory softens beautifully. This is often the perfect time for a short walk with the couple to create a few quiet portraits away from the celebrations.
These moments tend to be some of the most memorable images of the day — simple, calm and focused entirely on the couple.
